From April onward, 𝐃𝐆𝐖 (𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞/𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥) 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 in EU authorization dossiers for 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬. This shift fundamentally changes how we assess metabolites, transformation products, and drinking‑water exposure.

Regulators will now expect 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐃𝐆𝐖‑𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 for all relevant metabolites, including those formed during 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 such as chlorination, ozonation, and activated carbon filtration. The long‑standing “0.1 µg/L” default is no longer sufficient on its own.
𝐃𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬:
𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐝𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.Reassess your 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲. Confirm whether 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 has been fully evaluated. And update your 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬 and 𝐭𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 accordingly.
The deadline is approaching quickly, and dossiers submitted without DGW‑compliant data will face delays or regulatory pushback.
At @ibacon GmbH, @Vali Consulting and @LabAnalysis Life Science we support you in navigating these new requirements, from study design to regulatory strategy.
